Hastings

Year Group - Year 5 and Year 6

Welcome to Hastings Class.
As some of the oldest children in the school, Year 5 and Year 6 pupils have an important role and responsibility and we work hard to prepare them academically, socially and emotionally for their transition to secondary school and their future beyond primary education. A strong focus is placed on ensuring learning is engaging, creative and purposeful whilst also preparing pupils for SATs.

All morning lessons are taught in pure year groups to ensure focused and targeted teaching. English is taught to both Year 5 and Year 6 by Mrs Mawn, providing continuity and high expectations across the phase. Maths is taught in year groups, with Mrs Mawn teaching Year 6 maths and Miss Knight teaching Year 5 maths. Mrs Rhodes (HLTA) supports learning through the teaching of CLIC, Arithmetic, Spanish and spelling as part of the morning carousel. Afternoon lessons are taught within class groups.

We endeavour to make learning as practical and enjoyable as possible, giving children a successful and memorable final stage of their primary education and preparing them confidently for the next step.

We look forward to building a strong and thriving relationship between teacher, pupil and parents throughout the year.
