Wheler

Year Group - Year 1 and Year 2

Welcome to Wheler Class!

We are delighted to welcome you to Wheler Class, where we have both Year 1 and Year 2 children learning together. Our curriculum builds upon the children’s previous experiences, supporting Year 1 children as they transition from Reception while continuing to challenge and extend Year 2 learners. Learning through play and practical activities remains an important part of our day, with children gradually developing more independent and abstract thinking skills. We learn through lots of fun topics and exciting lessons and use a wide range of books to inspire our learning across the curriculum, helping to develop reading, writing and discussion skills.

Our day begins with registration, followed by phonics and CLIC. The children then take part in Maths in separate year groups, with the lovely Mrs Dixon taking Year 1 across to the Wheler building. After break time, we enjoy our English lessons before heading to lunch. In the afternoon, the children take part in topic lessons before ending the day by enjoying a story together.

On Mondays, children should bring their PE kits into school in their bags. On Wednesdays, children should come to school wearing their PE kits for Elite or Forest School, depending on which they have that term. We are really looking forward to a fantastic year of learning together and can’t wait to welcome you into our classroom.

See you soon,
Miss Harvey and Mrs Gaynor
